Sunday 9th May

RNLI Riverdance – Guinness World Record Attempt

Sunday 9th May will see the River Foyle as the Back drop for another Guinness World Record attempt for the City. This year the RNLI have organised a world record attempt that will see upwards of 600 Irish Dancers take part in the St Patricks Day Set for five minutes. This is the Dance made famous by the World Renowned Dance extravaganza Riverdance. It is expected that nearly 2000 people will descend on the Queens Quay to witness this spectacle. This one off event is not to be missed and is sure to be a real family day out.

National Drawing Day is an opportunity for adults and young people to draw togetherin an informal and enjoyable way organized by National Gallery Ireland.

One World Festival takes place in Derry from 24th May to 1st June 2010

The Festival begins with vibrant drum circles through out the City to literally start the Festival off with a bang. Synching up with the local radio station drive 105, drummers will beat in unison that will be able to be heard through out Derry. While the Festival includes different cultures and programmes and people can stop by the event at any time to sample the rich selection of booths and programmes, including the following:

Live Music - Varying cultural representation through music will include: Beyond Skin, Afresh (African), Harmonicity (Cultural drumming from Ireland, Africa, and more), The Urban Hermits (Irish Rock from Donegal), Angel Train and other bands and DJ’s performing Soul, R&B, Afro Brazilian, Hungarian, Balkan, Irish Folk, Ulster Scots Traditional Pipe Music, Ugandan, Indian, Polish, and more!

Dancing- Demonstrations of Salsa, Flamenco, Turkish belly dancing, Indian, and Traditional Irish.

Exhibtions and workshops - a detailed programme of interactive events and activities for young people including the challenges of Diversity, Anti-racism Training, Cultural Awareness, art and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Independence in Africa.

Arts & Crafts - Representation from the East with Korean and Japanese crafts and art for sale, local artists and vendors, and members of the growing ethnic community in Derry.

International Food - Offering delicacies from around the world, visitors can sample everything from American to Australian, and Swedish to South African.

Fun for the whole Family - Aiming to include everyone not just cross-culturally, but all ages, we will provide entertainment for children such as face painting, clowns, balloon modelling, music and dance workshops, and kid-friendly films throughout the festival.

Music Workshops - People young and old will have the chance to try their skills and learn a little something too with engaging workshops of African drumming and DJ spinning.

Carnivale Of Colours

A seven day event centered around 2 circus tents featuring an exciting programme of performance, spectacle and education in a grass roots circus - family orientated environment.

Circus shows, walkabout acts, musicians, sights, sounds and tastes of the world at this new and innovative approach to the traditional traveling circus concept.
