About Derry City Council

The City Council consists of thirty elected members (currently 14 SDLP, 10 Sinn Féin, 4 DUP and 1 Ulster Unionist) and the Mayor is Alderman Maurice Devanney. The Council employs around 650 people, and its gross revenue budget is £36m.

At a regional and cross-border level, the City Council has been central to the establishment of the North West Partnership Board – a key strategic cross-border forum which will shape the regional agenda and influence the working of the North-South Ministerial Council insofar as it focuses upon the North West of the Island.

Community planning is likely to become a increasing central priority for Derry City Council, and the Review of Public Administration is due to report in 2015. We have already begun to work closely with our partners in Strabane District Council to ensure that the ambitions and needs of all communities are embedded as early as possible in our planning process.
