This strategy is about how Derry City Council
will meet its statutory obligations under Section 75 (2) of
the Northern Ireland
Act 1998, namely “To have due regard to the desirability
of promoting good relations between persons of different religious
belief, political opinion or racial group.” Derry City
Council must also have this strategy with a clear focus on reconciliation,
inclusion and engagement between persons of different religious,
political or racial group in order to continue to participate
in the District Council’s Community Relations Programme
and receive annual funding through the Community Relations Unit
(OFMDFM). The Good Relations strategy aims to develop awareness and
understanding of the importance of good/community relations
and identify ways of promoting Good Relations within its own
organisation and with communities in the Derry City Council
area.
