Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Directive)The WEEE Directive has been introduced with the intention of minimising the impact of redundant and post consumer electrical and electronic equipment on the environment. It aims is to reduce the amount of WEEE going to landfill and to increase the re-use and recycling of all electrical and electronic equipment. Derry City Council has amended our Bulky Service to ensure compliance with the WEEE Directive. In addition to our normal bulky we have introduced a separate collection for WEEE. Our previous service only collected larger items such as fridges freezers etc. The new service will collect all WEEE from households in the Derry City Council area. We have divided WEEE into five categories. A: Large Household appliances, cookers ,dryers, washing machines, etc. B: Cooling appliances, fridges, freezers, etc C: Display Equipment, T.V ‘s, computer monitors, etc D: Gas discharge lamps, Fluorescent tubes, energy efficient bulbs, etc E: All other WEEE, kettles mobile phones, toasters, battery operates toys etc.
