Litter and Indiscriminate Dumping

Litter comes in varies forms, from cigarette ends to illegal indiscriminate dumping of larger items. Littering takes up a vast amount of time and resources.

Costs

Indiscriminate dumping accounts for a substantial amount of this cost.

Landlords have a responsibility to provide sufficient bins for the collection of household waste, in other words it is not reasonable to provide one household bin for ten flats.

The photographs below show the extent of the problem in certain areas within our city. They show in great detail how unsightly littering and dumping can be. We believe that we all share responsibility for keeping our area clean and free from litter and dumping.

This is unnecessary indiscriminate dumping if caught you face the possibility of a fine.
The arrow is pointing to a litter bin. This area of our City has Litter bins every 100 metres. Please think about your litter.

Items such as this ironing board can be taken to a Civic Amenity Site for recycling, as can the pallet beside it. If you have a query about such items contact Derry City Council and ask for advice.
