The City Marketing Department of Derry City Council have been engaged
to increase public awareness of the city’s participation in the
Britain in Bloom Competition. The department will produce a range of
press releases to profile the key themes of the portfolio and will assist
with organising a public launch to announce participation in the Competition.
The department will also seek press partners to raise awareness of public
opportunities to support the city’s bid within the competition.
In addition, a dedicated website will be developed to profile progress,
participation and achievements within the programme. A full portfolio
of coverage achieved will be available in early August and via the dedicated
website. A brief outline of the publicity plan is as follows:
- Creating a brand for the programme which is fun, lively and welcoming,
- Raising awareness within stakeholder organisations of their participation
and support of the competition through web and intranet links,
- Creating a web site which profiles progress, participation and achievements
within the programme,
- Generating an interest in the competition through raising awareness
in the city’s summer programme of events promotion and website,
- Identifying regional media partners to raise awareness of participation
through:

Profiling participation in Floral Displays through highlighting positive
public/private partnership initiatives,
Ø
Profiling innovation in the Floral Displays category,
Ø
Profiling community involvement in permanent landscaping through raising
awareness of the scale and quality of permanent landscaped public space,
Ø
Profiling parks and their role in creating quality space and leisure,
Ø
Profiling sustainable development through highlighting good practice
in managing our environment. Examples of achievement and innovation with
schools, local business and rural partners will be highlighted,
Ø
Profiling the benefits of working through education partnerships to raise
environmental awareness,
- An audit of activity will be prepared to include references to web
hits achieved, media coverage obtained and profile within the city’s
summer events programme.
