Derry City Council, Pride In Our City

LA21 Strategy

Derry City Council through the delivery of its services and through the actions outlined in this plan, aim to deliver an improved quality of life for all citizens. The LA21 Strategy identifies some of the social, economic and environmental issues facing the community and outlines how Derry City Council proposes to address them. It is also the intention to ensure that the principles of sustainable development and LA21 are integrated into all Council services and activities and that they are embraced by and promoted to the wider community.

The ultimate driver for the LA21 Strategy will be Council’s Corporate Plan, which in turn emphasises the need to address economic, environmental and social issues in a balanced and holistic way. Derry City Council cannot achieve its goals working in isolation. Developing and maintaining strong partnerships with the public, community and voluntary sectors, non-governmental organisations, schools, faith communities and the business and industrial sectors will be essential. The production of this Strategy marks the beginning of an on-going process; one, which Derry City Council hopes, will effect positive change throughout the City and wider Council District and which will benefit all citizens.
