Healthy Cities

Derry Healthy Cities has been a key catalyst in the development of a number of health and well-being initiatives across the Council area, for example: the Children’s Commission, the City Cycle Strategy, the Community Health Support Project and a Home Safety Check Scheme. Derry Healthy Cities City Health Plan has identified a number of key health themes for development.

The City Health Plan identified environment as a key theme and within that recognised that green spaces are essential to the life, vigour and positive health of the city. As a result the City Health Plan seeks to develop and preserve green spaces, create new green spaces and develop community based management initiatives in relation to the use of green spaces. An example of one of these initiatives is the Foyle greener Place Initiative which is outlined in Section C of this website.
