Derry City CouncilDerry City Council is the second largest Council in Northern Ireland, serving a population of 105,000. The City Council has 8 departments. Of these the City Engineer’s Department is the lead department in the development and implementation of strategies and initiatives for environmental enhancement throughout the city. This includes the provision, co-ordination and administration of technical and environmental services namely, waste management/disposal, recycling, street cleansing and enforcement. This department is pro-active in engaging with the wider community through a range of environmental and promotional campaigns. In consultation with other departments the City Engineer’s Department is responsible for Parks, Open Spaces, Cemeteries and Greenways maintenance and development. In addition the department is responsible for the management of public/private initiatives such as Sponsor a Roundabout, and for the provision of floral displays ie hanging baskets, precinct planters and bedding schemes. In support these initiatives will be highlighted throughout this document.
