Pride In Our City
Introduction
The Pride in our City campaign is the overarching campaign which supports Derry City Councils entries in a number of environmental competitions through the funding and collaborative working with various partners and stakeholders in the ongoing development and implementation of environmental initiatives and campaigns.
The Pride in our City’s Campaign primary aim is to enhance the greenscape and floral displays throughout the City, raise public awareness and foster civic pride.
With the support of this campaign successes have been achieved within the last six years in Ulster in Bloom. Britain in Bloom, Pride of Place, Best Kept Awards and Garden Show Ireland and more recently under the umbrella of the Pride in Our City Initiative in 2008, our city was the winner of the Ulster in Bloom “City Category” and was chosen to represent Northern Ireland in the Small City category in the 2009 Britain in Bloom competition.
Also in 2008 Park village representing the City in the Co-operation Ireland Pride of Place Competition, received a runners up award for its village population category and Derry City Council’s “Show Garden” entry in conjunction with local Conservation Volunteers NI and the Sow and Grow Horticultural Unit at Gransha received a Bronze Medal award at the Garden Show Ireland event at Hilsborough Castle.
