TESCO - Waterside Half Marathon

Tesco Waterside Half Marathon

Saturday, 13th September 2008

The 2008 Waterside Half Marathon and Team Relay, now in its 27th year, is back again on Saturday 13th September (10.30 am start). We are delighted to invite you to join us to this year's event where we hope to have 1000 participants lining up for action.

The event as always, caters for runners, joggers, wheelchair participants and walkers of all abilities - and we also facilitate a three-person team relay format. Last year we had a record field of finishers, which is expected to increase in 2008.

This year we are delighted to welcome as our new sponsor Tesco. We appreciate their support and look forward to our partnership until 2010.

Our generous £5000 plus prize fund which covers categories from Under 20’s to Over 70’s is in place again. We have ribboned medals, commemorative printed T-shirts and sports drinks for all finishers.

Our long-term beneficiary, Foyle Hospice, is joined this year by a new official charity - Aware Defeat Depression - and we trust many of you will respond to their requests to consider them for sponsorship.

We expect the proven quality of the Waterside to ensure a record field for 2008 and as usual we have our generous prize fund. Club runners are reminded that this year prizes will be strictly awarded on the basis of the age category nominated by each runner on the entry form. Entrants for the half marathon, run and walk, must be 17 years of age or over on the day of the event.

Half Marathon Team Relay

Growing in popularity is the three-person team relay. In 2007 there were over 25 teams competing. Each team member will run approximately 4.4 miles. The exact changeover points will be detailed in the race pack.

Walkers/Wheelchairs

Walkers and wheelchair participants are welcome. Walkers have an earlier start at 9.30 am and wheelchair participants will start before the main field at 10.25 am approximately.

Thanks again to the Western Health & Social Care Trust and to Invista for permission to use their grounds and also to Oakgrove Integrated College for access to their facilities.
