10 Mile Challenge Walk
The new 10 Mile Challenge Walk will use significant sections of the traditional Half Marathon course with adjustments in Zone 1 (Gransha Grounds) and Zone 4 (Invista site).
Zone 1 (Gransha Grounds)
The Walk will use the Half Marathon Start location, complete a full circuit of the horseshoe loop before turning left at the main Gransha Park Avenue junction and proceeding via the back road, past the Oakgrove Integrated College access, to emerge onto the Clooney Road Dual Carriageway (Zone 2).
Zone 2 (Dual Carriageway)
On the dual carriageway, proceed along the coned lane past the City of Derry Rugby Club grounds before turning left onto Temple Road (Zone 3).
Zone 3 (Temple Road – Strathfoyle)
Proceed up Temple Road into Strathfoyle Village and turn right onto Haw Road. Up the small rise to the Maydown Road junction, cross through and bear left down onto Electra Road. Down Electra Road and turn right into the Invista site (Zone 4).
Zone 4 (Electra Road/Invista Site)
Into the Invista site, bear right skirting the main car park, right again and then left heading for the main Clooney Road with the Maydown Industrial Estate on your right.
You will be directed right into the Maydown Industrial Estate (Zone 5) rather then following the road through the rest of the Invista site.
Zone 5 (Maydown Industrial Estate/Henderson Park)
You are now in the Maydown Industrial Estate. Proceed straight ahead, swing right and walk down to a U-turn at the Partridge Peartree building. Back up and exit the Industrial Estate. Turn left on the Maydown Road, right into Templetown Mews and straight on to Henderson Park, ready to exit back into Zone 2.
Zone 2 (Homeward Bound On Dual Carriageway)
Back into Zone 2, walk down past Temple Road Junction and re-enter Gransha Park Road back into Zone 1.
Zone 1 (To Finish)
Return along the Gransha Park back Road past Oakgrove College access road, along past Sow & Grow back onto the horseshoe loop. Turn right onto the horseshoe and head for the U3A Foyle Car Park.
You will be directed onto the grass area below the Car Park and to the Finish Funnel.
