Race Traffic Update

General Traffic Information

Waterside Half Marathon 2011

Members of the public participating in the event and those living in the area of the Marathon route are advised that some traffic restrictions will be in place for a short period during the event.

In an effort to minimise disruption and to avoid delays members of the public are asked to follow the signed diversions and co-operate fully with the police and race marshals.

The Waterside Half Marathon will take the runners along a route that includes Gransha Grounds, Strathfoyle, Maydown Road and part of the Limavady bound dual carriageway. Members of the public are asked to avoid travelling along this route during the event if at all possible. If you are travelling towards the city from Temple Road/Strathfoyle during the event, please use the Maydown road and anyone living along the route is asked not to park their vehicle on the road but to keep the route clear so that the race can pass safely. Most importantly of all, road users are asked to drive carefully – remember there will be people running on the road!

Road closures come into effect at 10am so vehicles must be parked on site before this time and we would ask people to please bear in mind that traffic is likely to be very heavy on the morning of the race, we would encourage car sharing but either way advise that you should allow at least an extra 20 minutes for your journey time and for parking. Marshalls will be onsite to assist you and we would ask people to remember, that the Gransha site is a working hospital and so please respect the staff, residents and visitors.

Please drive with due care and consideration and be careful not to park where you may be obstructing roads / entrances / emergency access routes. Remember there will be people running on the road!

Please co-operate fully with the police and the marshals.

We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused to you by these traffic restrictions. Please bear with us, enjoy the event if you can and remember that disruptions to normal traffic will only be for a very short time.
