A Message from the Mayor

The Mayor Alderman Maurice Devenney says “this year’s Waterside Half Marathon promises to be a special occasion for everyone in the city as the North West’s premier sporting event celebrates its 30th birthday. I would encourage athletes and walkers of all levels and abilities to get involved in this year’s event.  This is a superb event that brings together athletes of various disciplines to enjoy sport in a local environment. What makes the event special is the fact that it is a family occasion that is enjoyed by people from all over the city and North West who use it as an opportunity to raise funds for charity, achieve personal goals and get involved in a healthier lifestyle.”

Foyle Search and Rescue are delighted to be associated with this great event. Funding has been steadily decreasing in the current financial climate and we really need the public that we serve to get behind us and help us to get our launching pontoon back in the water and to continue the vital lifesaving work that we do within our city. We would call on everyone to come out and take part in this fantastic event which is guaranteed to be fun for all the family.

Children In Crossfire

We urge everyone if possible to please take up the challenge by walking or running in the City’s Half Marathon as part of a relay team or individually;. Many of the children we work with in Tanzania, Ethiopia and The Gambia  have to endure long journeys each day as they struggle to obtain basic rights of education, food, and water. With your help we can invest in these children’s future’s and break the cycle of extreme poverty they are trapped in.
Being involved with the Waterside Half Marathon is a real honour for Children in Crossfire.”
