Good Relations Strategy 2008/09 – 20010/11

The Good Relations Strategy and Action Plan from Derry City Council has been compiled by the Community Relations Officers from Derry City Council.  Its purpose is to set out Good Relations Actions for 08-09, 09-10 and 10-11 as requested by the Community Relations Unit (OFMDFM) in March 2008.  All local authorities now participate in the District Council Community Relations Programme that began in 1989.

The document may be useful to:

• Peace and Conflict Students / Researchers.
• Local Community Groups as a research base for GR/CR funding applications.
• Pupils studying Citizenship.
• Persons interested in understanding the GR work of Derry City Council.

The strategy makes use of the consultation information from the North West Peace and Reconciliation Action Plan (Peace III strategy).  It also provides information on the context of Good Relations work in the council area with reference to information from Peace III; ILEX/DCC/DSD ‘Shared Public Spaces’ Document; the ‘Programme for Government 2008 -11; the Consultative Group on the Past and other relevant documents, consultations and research.

The Good Relations Strategy 08/09 – 10/11 underwent a full Equality Impact Assessment Process from July – November 2008.  It was fully ratified by Derry City Council in December 2008.  It was formally launched in March 2009.
