Go Exploring

Saturday and Sunday, May 21 – 22, 11.00am – 6.00pm

Discover what local wildlife we have in the city from bats, red squirrels and otters and explore the wealth of habitats from Lough Foyle, ancient woodlands and parks. Learn how to use home composting bins and get gardening tips with Gareth Austin, horticultural expert.  Uncover what birds can be found on the shores of the Foyle and in your garden with RSPB. Find out what is happening with the restoration of the historic Guildhall building and what fun you could have in Creggan Country Park this summer.

Also, Riverwatch Aquarium and Visitor Centre will take you on a voyage of discovery through marine touch tank, mystery box and mighty microscope activities!

Exhibits include, Derry City Council’s Bio Diversity Team, Creggan Country Park, NWRC, Northern Ireland Bat Group, Riverwatch, RSPB, and many more.


 

Boats and Drums
Sunday, May 22, 11.00am – 6.00pm

Good Relations Celebrating Good Relations Week Derry City Council’s Community Service invite you to come along and ‘beat the drums’ with Different Drums. Learn how to write your name in Chinese and make your own paper boat with the Sai Pak Community in the Culture Exhibit.


 

Spanish Armada Display
Derry City Council’s Heritage and Museum Service
Saturday and Sunday, May 21 – 22, 11.00am – 6.00pm

Heritage & Museum Service 400 years ago the North West played a role in one of the world’s greatest maritime campaigns, the Spanish Armada. This is the story of La Trinidad Valencera, which sank in Kinnegoe Bay Co Donegal in 1588 and its connection with this city and region.  40 years ago this year members of the City of Derry Sub Aqua Club discovered the wreck of La Trinidad Valencera and the story of this discovery and the recovery of the objects found there is now told in the Tower Museum.

Come along to find out more about La Trinidad Valencera and meet some of the divers who took part in this historic discovery.

Vintage Coach Tour *

Tour Bus Highly popular last year, the Vintage Coach will once again take to the road and our local guides will relate history and stories from throughout the city. Visit the Waterside and the Altantic Memorial exhibition at the Workhouse Museum. Learn about plans for the big opening of our newest bridge…

Tours will depart at 11.15am, 12.15am, 1.15pm, 2.15pm, 3.15, and 4.15pm, Tickets at Information Desk
