Elected Members

There are 30 elected members (Councillors) in Derry City Council, serving in wards, grouped into five District Electoral Areas, Cityside, Northland, Rural, Shantallow and Waterside.

Council elections, conducted by a system of Proportional Representation, are held every four years.

Each year, in June, at the Council's Annual Meeting, the 30 Councillors elect a Mayor, a Deputy Mayor, Members of each Standing Committee and appointments to a range of external bodies. Each Standing Committee elects a Chairperson at its first meeting. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected on a yearly basis at the Annual General Meeting.

Cityside - (Comprising Beechwood, Brandywell, Creggan Central, Creggan South, Westland)

Northland - (Comprising Crevagh, Foyle Springs, Pennyburn, Rosemount, Springtown, Strand and The Diamond)

Rural - (Comprising Banagher, Claudy, Eglinton, Enagh, Hollymount, Newbuildings)

Shantallow - (Comprising Ballynashallog, Carnhill, Culmore, Shantallow East, Shantallow West)

Waterside - Comprising Altnagelvin, Caw, Clondermot, Ebrington, Kilfennan, Lisnagelvin and Victoria)
