Best Value
We have set ourselves a number of key actions that are to be achieved within
the coming year. These actions are aimed at addressing current issues of
concern and contribute towards the achievement of our strategic priorities.
Our main corporate objectives for the financial year 2000/2001 are:
- To implement the Best Value Performance Plan for 2000/2001
and prepare the plan for 2001/2002
- To implement our Equality Scheme and promote equality of opportunity
and good relations in accordance with Northern Ireland Act 1998

To progress with our partners the Economic Development Strategy for the
Derry City Council area
- To prepare a Waste Management Plan in accordance with the Northern
Ireland Waste Management Strategy
- To position the City of Derry Airport as a major regional airport
- To promote sustainable development and develop a Local Agenda
21 strategy
- To produce, publish and distribute, to every household in the
Council area, a document which outlines the Council’s services,
how we are performing and how we intend to improve
- To develop a Community Services Plan incorporating a strategy
for social inclusion
- To develop and implement a Community Relations Operational Plan
- To conduct public, councillor, staff and user consultation regarding
"Best Value" in our services
- To develop an energy management strategy
- To update our I.T. strategy and to enhance the application of I.T. to our frontline
telephone and communication systems (inc development of interactive website)
- To develop an employee welfare and communications programme
- To establish cross departmental focus groups to tackle issues
of common concern
- To develop and implement a corporate feedback and complaints
monitoring system
- To reduce the number of working days lost due to absenteeism
- To increase staff awareness regarding the issue of Domestic Violence
- To facilitate a strategy for dealing with on street drinking and anti-social behaviour (note: not in merit order)
