Please dress appropriate for the weather. Telescopes and
binoculars are provided for the bird courses but please bring
your own where possible.
These workshops are funded by Department for Social Development
through the ‘Areas at Risk’ and ‘Local Community Fund’ programmes.
Wetland Birds Tour
Friday 5th March, 10.00am – 2.00pm
Bus leaves Da Vinci’s car park
Are you interested in learning more about the birds of the River
Foyle and Lough Foyle system. These are the birds that make this area
so special. This tour will have a number of stops at key sites around
Lough Foyle to enable us to view as many birds as possible. Leaving Da
Vincis carpark at 10.00am and returning for lunch at Da Vincis at 1.00pm.
Places are limited please book early.
Mammal Tracking
Saturday 6th March, 10.00- 4.00pm
Ecobase followed by tour (transport provided)
The most secretive and hard to spot of our wildlife can be the mammals.
This workshop will give you the skills to look for mammal signs such as tracks,
homes, leavings etc. This course will be held at the Ecobase and transport
will be provided in the afternoon to visit a number of different sites around
the City.
Woodland Bird Identification
Saturday 13th March, 10.30am – 3.00 pm
Ecobase and Bay Road Park
Garden and woodland birds are around us all the time but have you noticed
the beauty and variety there is. This course will give you tips on how to
best see these birds and how to identify them through sights and sounds.
Lunch is provided.
Step into spring at Burntollet Wood
Tree planting event: Saturday 20 March
Nature lovers are invited to don welly boots for a special afternoon of tree planting. The Woodland Trust’s Burntollet Wood - in the beautiful Faughan Valley, just outside Londonderry - awaits you on Saturday 20 March, from 12 to 4pm.
Meadows and Minibeasts
Sunday 21st March, 1.00pm - 4.00pm
Ecobase and Bay Road Park
Butterflies, invertebrates and meadow plants will be the focus of this
afternoon’s workshop. Volunteers will learn the methods that will be used
over the following months to record these plants and animals on Bay Road Park
Local Nature Reserve.
Batty about Bats?

Ecobase
Want to learn more about our native flying mammals. Robin Moffatt from the
Northern Ireland Bat Group gives an illustrated talk on what bats you could
find around your area, how to tell them apart and why they are important.
