Bike Week 2013: 15-23 June

“The Wheelie Big Festival”

Bike Week is an annual opportunity to promote cycling and show how it can easily be part of everyday life. Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling the week aims to get people to give cycling a go all over the UK & Ireland.

This year, thanks to sponsorship from DRD-Travelwise, the Culture Company, Sustrans and Derry City Council the festival plans to help deliver a range of exciting events as part of a bigger and more ambitious cycling programme for the city. The sponsors are teaming up with the Donegal Sports Partnership, the Foyle Cycling Club and a host of others to deliver a super-sized bike festival as part of the City of Culture celebrations. From aerial stunt displays and high speed races to traffic-free family rides and cross-border treks there is something to please everybody.

However, it’s not just about headline grabbing events. A whole range of free cross-border, cross-community activities and trainings will be taking place to bring the action to your neighbourhood such as Dr Bike clinics, cycle training, pedalling picnics and bike hire, to name but a few. So whether your bike is in need of some TLC, you need a bit of training to get back in the saddle or you’re just unsure of where to cycle, The Wheelie Big Festival has it all; with more and more people cycling and an ever-growing network of traffic-free paths, it’s never been a better time to take to two wheels.

Come to any of the events on Bike Week and get your name in the draw for a free bike!
