St Patricks Day Celebrations

Preparations are well underway for the 2012 St Patrick’s Day Spring Carnival with over 900 community and voluntary groups getting ready for this year’s “ Voyage of Discovery”  themed Carnival Parade.

Last year’s event was a tremendous success for everyone involved with a fantastic and colourful carnival parade bringing a blaze of colour to the city’s streets which were lined with spectators who were all keen to catch a glimpse of the children and families taking part and catch a glimpse of the spectacular colourful carnival displays.

The Carnival Parade, which is organised by the North West Carnival Initiative, is currently working on a schedule of workshops to assist voluntary and community groups, as well as schools and organizations across the city that are keen to get involved in the parade and assist them in getting their floats and costumes ready. This year’s “ Voyage of Discovery”  themed Carnival Parade, exploring everything from the city’s aviation and maritime history to great voyages exploring all corners of our planets including the magical worlds of our jungles, rainforests, oceans, poles and even outer space.

There will be musical entertainment to entertain the crowds and following the city’s success in securing the 2013 All Ireland Fleadh, its hoped there will be a strong Irish traditional music theme as the city prepares for the music and cultural celebration of a lifetime.
