Outer West Community Sport Development Programme
The programme has been established by Derry City Council with support from Sport Northern Ireland
The Outer West Community Sport Development Programme will aim to:
- Improve the health and well – being of underrepresented groups within the community through the sustained participation in sport / physical activity
- Develop capacity and build community participation and cohesion in the community by way of promoting volunteering and active citizenship to support the programme
- Utilise the programme to assist participants to enhance their self-esteem and emotional well-being
The Outer West Community Sport Development Programme will utilise sport and physical activity within the Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal Area as a medium through which to:
- Promote physical literacy particularly for young people and under represented groups such as women, girls and people with disabilities
- Develop a competent sporting workforce
- Promote an increase in participation in sport and physical activity for those who have not previously had a sustained interest in sport or physical activity
- To develop capacity and community infrastructure
