Community Clean Up

Tonnes of reasons to support community clean-ups

Over 60 tonnes of waste has been lifted in community clean-ups across the City since May of this year.

With the schedule of clean-ups set to intensify throughout the summer months this figure is expected to rise significantly.

Community groups from across the Waterside and Cityside have worked in partnership with Derry City Council’s Cleansing Department to co-ordinate a schedule of clean ups and bulky lifts.

These clean-ups are additional to council services and are designed to support local residents to prevent random dumping and keep neighbourhoods tidy.

Gary Mc Wha who looks after the operational side of community clean-ups for Derry City Council is very happy with the level of resident support for the service:

“This initiative works great, residents have been very co-operative and work well with Council and community representatives to prevent indiscriminate dumping and keep their areas tidy. On top of this all items are recycled, I would encourage people to check the council web-site and local community centres for details of the next clean-up and bulky lift in your area and take advantage of this service”

Clean-ups have taken place across all areas of the City, below are details of upcoming services, for further information for your area please contact Norman Boyd at Derry City Council on 02871 365151.
