Blue Bin Disposal Items
Please recycle only the following materials in your blue recycling bin:
- Paper: Newspaper, magazines, flyers, junk mail, envelopes (no shredded paper or windows from envelopes)
- Cardboard / Light Card: All cardboard boxes and card packaging including cereal boxes, kitchen / toilet rolls ends etc
- Cans and Tins: Food and drinks cans, – please wash out
- Aerosols: Empty hair spray, air fresheners, body sprays etc
- Plastic Bottles: Plastic milk, juice and soft drink, washing – up liquids, shampoos, cleaning bottles etc
- Cartons: Drinks cartons, soups, milk – please wash out
- Plastic Containers: Butter / margarine / yoghurt pots, food trays – please wash out
- Small Waste Electrical Items(maximum size – an average household toaster or kettle): Toasters, kettles, hair dryers, radios, etc, NO GLASS – TV’S, MICROWAVES, MONITORS ETC
- Textiles: Used clothing and shoes – Preference should be given to Charity Shops, Clothing Banks, etc
- Household Batteries: AA, AAA etc. No Car / Auto Batteries
- MIXED GLASS can now go into your Blue Bin. Wine, Beer ,Spirit bottles, Jam ,Coffee Jars ,Glass Sauce ,Medicine ,Perfume, Aftershave Bottles .All Glass bottles and Jars must be empty and rinsed out. LIDS CAN be left on. BROKEN BOTTLES AND JARS CAN ALSO BE ACCEPTED.
Householders are asked to rinse / wash out bottles, cans, cartons, food packaging etc
Plastic Bottles, cans, cartons, packaging etc should be squashed / folded etc to maximise space in the bin.
The following materials CANNOT be placed in blue recycling bins
Shredder Paper, Tissues and Window from Envelopes, Nappies, Food Waste, Polystyrene, General Rubbish, Duvets and Quilts, TV’s Computer Monitors, Microwaves etc
Recycling bins will not be emptied if they contain unacceptable refuse as detailed above. It is the householders responsibility to ensure that bins are compliant.
What happens to your waste?
Blue bin waste is sorted at a materials recovery facility prior to transportation to end markets for further reprocessing.
All household waste from your black bin is taken to a licensed disposal site.
General information
Your Recycling Bin will be emptied on a fortnightly basis. Your collection day will remain the same. Click here to view a calendar showing collection schedules. Please put the bin in a safe position at your normal collection point. Make sure the bin is not a hazard to pedestrians or road users.
