Pride In Our City

Pride In Our CityThe Pride in our City campaign is the overarching campaign which supports Derry City Councils entries in a number of environmental competitions through the funding and collaborative working with various partners and stakeholders in the ongoing development and implementation of environmental initiatives and campaigns.

The Pride In Our City Campaign’s primary aim is to enhance the greenscape and floral displays throughout the City, raise public awareness and foster civic pride.

With the support of this campaign successes have been achieved within the last eight years in Ulster in Bloom, Britain in Bloom, Pride of Place, Best Kept Awards, and Garden Show Ireland.  More recently under the umbrella of the Pride in Our City Initiative in 2010, our city was the winner of the Ulster in Bloom “City Category” and was chosen to represent Northern Ireland in the Small City category in the 2011 Britain in Bloom competition, in which a Silver award was achieved in 2009 and 2010.

Also in 2010 The Cathedral Youth Club (The Fountain)  representing the City in the Co-operation Ireland Pride of Place Competition, attained the runners-up award for cities category 2, while The Nerve Centre  represented the City in the ‘Community Arts Initiative’ category.  Additionally in 2010 Derry City Council’s “A Recipe for Wildlife Success” garden entry, in conjunction with local Conservation Volunteers NI and local schools, received a ‘Highly Commended’ award at the Garden Show Ireland event at Hillsborough Castle.

This year the City is entered in the following competitions:

  1. Best Kept Awards
  2. Ulster in Bloom
  3. Britain in Bloom
  4. Co-operation Ireland Pride of Place
  5. Garden Show Ireland
