Press ReleaseCouncil Staff Success Acknowledged By MayorThursday, 30 November 2006Staff from a range of departments at Derry City Council will be awarded certificates for achievements in Team Leadership, Waste Management, Communications Skills, NVQ’s and Assessor Awards at a ceremony in the Guilhdall today, Thursday, 30 November, at 3.30 pm, by the Mayor, Councillor Helen Quigley. “These certificates are a credit to the staff who have worked so hard to reach the standards necessary for them. It’s important that staff are motivated and feel that they achieve something aside from their day to day work commitments. “I think it also shows Derry City Council’s commitment to staff development and standards in service. We know Council services are only as good as the staff that provide them and if people are happy, motivated and feel valued that will be reflected in the quality of service to our customers. Congratulations to everyone.” 48 employees across a range of departments received certificates confirming their achievements. Staff working in leisure, museum, grounds maintenance, cemeteries, cleansing and facilities management were among those whose achievements were recognized. Congratulating everyone involved, the Town Clerk and Chief Executive, Tony McGurk said: “This is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved. I know a lot of extra work has gone into achieving the standards necessary for these qualifications and I’m delighted that so many people here have been successful. “Derry City Council understands the importance of investing in staff and I think this value not only boosts morale but improves the quality of service as staff take an increased pride in their work.”
