Mayor praises award winning school governor

The Mayor, Councillor Helen Quigley will acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Paddy Hume as chairman of the Board of Governors at St. Cecilia’s College by hosting a reception at the Guildhall on this evening, Wednesday 29 November at 6.00 pm.

Last month, Paddy was awarded the Governor of the Year accolade at the UK DFES Teaching Awards.

Paying tribute to the work carried out by Paddy Hume, the Mayor said she was delighted his dedication and hard work had been acknowledged.

She said: “Paddy’s positive attitude, dedication and humour has made him a very popular person in the school and his forward thinking attitude has helped St Cecilia’s College in all aspects of its development work.”

The Mayor paid tribute to management, staff and pupils at the College and emphasised the importance of education in the development of young people in the city.

Teachers have an invaluable role in society. Education is the cornerstone of society and education has an important role to play in the lives and future development of young people in the City. Teachers have the chance to influence and educate young people helping with them to chose the correct career path and prepare them for the future. Paddy Hume has played an extremely important role in the development of the futures of many young women in this city. This award is a fitting tribute to the huge contribution he has made.”
