Amenity Sites Set To Reopen

Tuesday, 28 July 2009

Members of Derry City Council today agreed to reopen the Civic Amenity sites at Brandywell and Eglinton following a Special Council meeting to discuss the matter. The sites, which were closed in early May as part of the Council’s savings programme within the Rates Estimates for 2009/10, will re-open with reduced hours in early Autumn.

A spokesperson for Derry City Council explained that savings had been found through anticipated reductions in waste tonnage and waste treatment costs against projections for the financial period 2009/10. The revised opening times for the civic amenity sites are as follows:

  Days Hours
Brandywell Mon - Sat 8am-5pm (all year)
Eglinton Mon - Fri 8am-5pm (Autumn/Winter)
  Mon - Fri 12pm-8pm (Spring/Summer)
  Sat 8am-5pm (all year)
Strathfoyle Mon - Sat 8am-5pm (all year)

There is no change to the operating arrangements for Claudy and Park civic amenity sites. These sites will continue to operate within the reduced hours arrangements for 2009/10. Pennyburn and Glendermott Road civic amenity sites will also continue to operate within the extended opening arrangements for 2009/10.

Ends
