Press ReleaseCouncil pays tribute to the late Don O’DohertyTuesday 27th MayDerry City Council has paid tribute to the late Don O’Doherty, who died at the weekend and was buried this morning. The Mayor, Alderman Drew Thompson said Mr. O’Doherty would be sadly missed by people across the city and paid tribute to his contribution to broadcasting and the local arts. “He was a very influential and popular man who made a huge contribution to the arts and helped raise funds for charity. I would like to extend my condolences to his family at this sad time,” he said. Mr. O’Doherty was a former employee of Derry City Council having worked as Cemeteries Manager for a long number of years before his retirement. The Council’s Town Clerk and Chief Executive, Mr. Tony McGurk acknowledging his role within the Council and described him as an extremely well liked and popular former employee. “Don O’Doherty was a great person, who was very well liked by everyone. He was very proud of his city and its people and did all he could to showcase the city’s talents and was a true ambassador for the city. He will be greatly missed. The sympathy of Derry City Council’s members, management and staff are extended to his family,” he added.
