Press ReleaseB-ORGANIC launch at Guildhall Country Food FairMonday, 25 October 2004The North West’s first retail organic outlet, offering a comprehensive range of organic meats, fruit and vegetables, dairy products and dry goods will be launched at the Guildhall Country Food Fair at Guildhall Square on Saturday, October 30. B-ORGANIC is an organic farm shop which will be located at 48 Upper Galliagh Road, Derry, and customers can place their orders for home delivery through the website – www.b-organic.com or by contacting the farm shop directly. The idea of opening the retail outlet came as a result of Pat Heaney’s involvement in the North West Organic Group. His daughter, Paula will manage the business. The Heaney family have a long tradition of retailing and distributing food products, having successfully owned and run the former Maybrook Dairy and Foyle Gas Company. “The main rationale behind setting up the organic retail outlet was the fragmentation of organic sales in the region. While the public want organic produce they can only access a limited range in some supermarkets and that supply is not always consistent. Our aim is to provide a range of premium products that customers could access in a convenient way. There is an excellent range of organic produce available in the region and throughout Ireland, however we feel it is not being brought to the public’s attention. People want to buy organic and we intend to make it as easy as possible for them to do so,” Paula explained. The produce of B-ORGANIC will be available at the Fair along with 25 other speciality food stalls all of which will be displaying a mouth-watering array of fresh produce stalls ranging from organic meat, fish, poultry, vegetables and traditional breads to exotic oysters, mussels, olives, venison and cheese. The event will take place this Saturday, October 30, from 10 am to 3 pm, as part of the Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival. The event is hosted by the Rural Area Partnership in Derry (RAPID), Derry City Council, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and supported by the North West Organic Co-operative. The event is funded through the Leader programme. Further press information can be obtained by contacting the City Marketing Department, Tel. 028 7137 6504 or Una Cooper, RAPID, 028 7133 7146.
