Mayor condemns shooting incident

The Mayor, Councillor Gerard Diver has condemned the murder of a local man in the city today describing it as a ‘shocking and despicable act’.

The man who is believed to be local and in his early 20’s was shot dead in the early hours of this morning in the Bligh’s Lane area of the city.

Mayor Diver hit out at those responsible, saying they did not have the support of the local community to carry out this shooting. He also appealed to the public and anyone who has any information to co-operate fully with the police in the investigation.

He also extended his sympathy to the family and friends of the victim saying the thoughts and prayers of the people of the city are with them at this difficult time.
