Conclusion of St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre Summercamp 2008

Mayor Councillor Gerard Diver will be presenting medals and trophies to the children who have completed a summercamp organised by Derry City Council at St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre during the month of July.

Speaking ahead of the prizegiving Mayor Councillor Gerard Diver said he was delighted that the annual summercamp had proved to be such a success. He continued.

“Summer schemes form an important part of the summer, keeping children occupied in a safe and enjoyable environment during their school holidays. I am delighted that children were engaged in a number of activities where their skills and personal attributes were rewarded, giving everyone the opportunity to excel and be recognized for their individual achievements.”

“I was also pleased to see that a number of children from the Cedar Foundation were taking part in this year’s summer camps. I know that the organisers and other participants made sure that they were encouraged at all times to participate in as many activities as possible.”

Children aged between eight to twelve years old have been participating in an action-packed Summercamp during the month of July. Based at St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre the activities included sports such as football, wall climbing, badminton, tennis, racquetball, orienteering, table tennis, archery and swimming. In addition to this the young people have had a chance to enjoy cookery classes, artwork, nail art and face painting.

Each child will also receive a goodie bag at the presentation.
