Press ReleaseCelebration of 35 years of St Columb’s Cathedral Youth ClubWednesday, 23 AprilSt Columb’s Cathedral will host a special “Youth United” service on Sunday 27th April to celebrate 35 years of the St Columb’s Cathedral Youth Club. The event is being organised as part of Community Relations Week. Over 30 events are being organised by Derry City Council as part of a Northern Ireland wide initiative. The service will acknowledge the important role played by the young people living in an interface area in the city and actively involved in community relations events with other young people throughout the city and across the border. The Youth Club has been in existence since the 1970’s and have continued to make a positive contribution to the local community with their range of activities and events. The service will celebrate the work of the organisation and members of the club will be actively involved in the service. Jeanette Warke, from Shared City Project, commented “It is often the case that we only hear about the negative things our young people are doing. This service will highlight the accomplishments of our young people, of which there are many. We want to show that our young people can be united and can work together to overcome their shared barriers and achieve joint successes. Derry City Council is supporting all the events during Community Relations Week. Carol Stewart, Community Relations Officer with Derry City Council said “With so many young people in the city, it is important that facilities like St Columb’s Cathedral Youth Club are available to them and it is great to be able to celebrate 35 years of such a valuable service. It is important that all community relations initiatives are supported and the Council is delighted to be involved in Community Relations Week so we can do just that”. All young people in the city are encouraged to come along to the event, regardless of religious background or if they attend the Cathedral Youth Club.
