Guildhall Square goes Continental this Hallowe’en
Hell's Kitchen - Guildhall Square goes Continental. Councillor Gerard Diver, Chair of Development Committee, and Terence O'Kane, Economic Development Section -Derry City Council, get set for the Continental Market which will be in the city centre from this Thursday 25th - Sunday 28th October.

This event follows on from the hugely successful Continental Market which took place in spring of this year and which attracted significant interest to Guildhall Square when it last visited. The market will bring together a collection of up to 60 speciality traders ranging from a number of European countries including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Holland, providing a real “Taste of Europe” with a wide variety of speciality foods, crafts, jewellery, clothes and exotic plants.

Councillor Gerard Diver, Chair of the Development Committee, welcomed the return of the market.

“I am delighted to welcome the Continental Market back to the City given its success last Halloween and this Spring. This event attracted a lot of people to the Guildhall Square/Waterloo Place area and created a unique atmosphere during its time here. I have no doubt that this forthcoming event will prove a hit with locals and visitors alike and I wish it every success”.

The Continental Market is set to feature a range of foods including rare breed hog roast, pates, German sausages, cheeses, olives and freshly baked French breads. Customers will also be able to take a trip around the world of rare meats such as Kangaroo and Ostrich, Springbok from South Africa, Wild Boar and Alligator steaks.

This hugely successful continental market event forms part of Derry City Council’s Market Development Programme, and is organised in conjunction with Market Place Europe Ltd who select and manage the traders that are participating. In addition to visiting Derry, Market Place Europe Ltd are responsible for organising over 60 similar Continental markets throughout the UK & Ireland, including the regular May and Christmas continental markets that are held in Belfast City Centre.

Allan Hartwell, Managing Director of Market Place Europe Ltd stated that the Derry market event promises to be as successful as the last two events with additional market traders in attendance.

“It promises to be a great shopping experience with some fantastic food and goods on sale so why not shop around Europe without event leaving Derry City Centre. I am also delighted to be working in partnership with Derry City Council and pleased that we are hosting two markets in the City on a yearly basis”

Opening hours for the market will be from 9am to 7-00pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday.
