Press ReleaseChristmas and New Year arrangements for Derry City CouncilWednesday, 21 December 2005Arrangements in place for Council services are available online today by viewing www.derrycity.gov.uk/christmas. The public are encouraged to view the site for arrangements relating to refuse collection, recycling centres, leisure and heritage facilities plus Christmas arrangements for all main council services. Christmas Opening ArrangementsDerry City Council Head Office at Strand Road and the Guildhall (including District Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages) will be closed on Monday 26th, Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th December 2005. Offices will re-open on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th December 2005. The Council’s Refuse collection service will operate as normal from Monday 19th – Friday 23rd December. Please note that refuse (blue and grey bins) due for collection on Monday 26th December will be collected on Saturday 24th December as there is no refuse collection on the 26th December. Normal service will continue from Tuesday 27th – Friday 30th December. The Council’s Civic Amenity Sites and Recycling Centres will be open as normal from 8.30am – 5.00pm, Monday 19th – Friday 23rd December. On Saturday 24th December they will be open from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm. All facilities will be closed on Christmas Day, Sunday 25th December. They will reopen again at 10am on 26th December, until 4.00pm. The facility will remain open normal hours from Tuesday 27th – Friday 30th and be open from 8.30am to 4.00pm on Saturday 31st. (Details of items that can be recycled are available through www.derrycity.gov.uk/christmas). The Tower Museum and Workhouse Museum will close from Friday evening, 23rd December, and reopen again on Tuesday 3rd January 2006. The Harbour Museum will be open on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th December. Templemore Sports Complex and Lisnagelvin Leisure Centres will be closed from 5.00pm on Friday 23rd December and will re-open on Wednesday 28th December. Brooke Park Leisure Centre will close at 10:00pm on Friday 23rd December until Wednesday 28th December. St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre will be closed on Saturday 24th December until Tuesday 03rd January 2006. City Baths will close on Saturday 24th December until Tuesday 03rd January 2006. The Brandywell Sports Centre is open as normal on Friday 23rd December and will be closed for the Christmas break until Thursday 29th December. New Year ArrangementsTemplemore Sports Complex, Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre and Brandywell Sports Centre will close to the public on New Year’s Day Sunday 1st January and reopen again on Monday 2nd January 2006. St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre, City Baths and Brooke Park will be closed on Sunday 1st and Monday 2nd and will re-open to the public on Tuesday 3rd January 2006, Recycling centres will be closed for New Year on Sunday 1st January and will reopen again to the public from 10am to 4pm on Monday 2nd January, 2006, Refuse collection will continue as normal from Monday 2nd January – Friday 6th January 2006, Derry City Council Offices at Strand Road and the Guildhall (including the registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages) will also be closed on Monday 02nd January and will re-open on Tuesday 03rd January 2005, The public are advised to view the opening arrangements and additional information via www.derrycity.gov.uk/christmas.
