Press ReleaseJust Say Yes! onlineFriday 21st MayThe City’s campaign to become the first UK City of Culture 2013 has received a massive virtual endorsement from Colm Long, Director Facebook EMEA and originally a Derry native . Speaking after attending a Cultural Connections event in Dublin he has firmly placed his support behind the bid. “I was taken with the passion and the reasons for why Derry is the best candidate for the nomination and I am convinced that it will be a huge lift for the city and its people. Everyone is working so hard on behalf of the city and I, along with thousands of supporters will be keeping a close eye on the outcome”. Claire Lundy, speaking on behalf of the bid team said: “The more support we can get the more we can demonstrate the passion and pride of the city in bringing this title home. We can make a compelling argument for the city and everyone’s support and help is essential”. And there’s still time to keep the support going. The city of culture 2013 has launched a unique Just Say Yes social media campaign encouraging support for the bid. Already over 500 applications of the City of Culture 2013 twibbon have been registered, more than 7,444 members of facebook, nearly 200 twitter followers and over 1,000 downloads of the GET INVOLVED option of the www.cityofculture2013.com site. Claire concluded: “ We’ve made it really easier to show support on-line with all the options available at www.cityofculture2013.com , and selected “get involved”. You can change your personal profile picture on your facebook or create a new twibbon, retweet the hash tag #derry2013, “like” us on Facebook or simply email a message to your family and friends. We really want to share the story of the bid’s support and we hope everyone will make some time to take part in it. Our ambition is to ensure the judges say Yes to our city and region and bring this accolade home”. Feel free to drop into the culture office on Friday 21st May and have your photograph taken with the “City of Culture” badge for your own personal use on Facebook.
