Derry DPP receives presentations from Justice Agencies

Derry District Policing Partnership today received presentations from the Public Protection Arrangements (NI), Victim Support and the Youth Justice Agency.

Denis Ferguson from the Public Protection Arrangements (NI), Strategy and Administration Department outlined the service’s role within the Criminal Justice System and its relationship with the PSNI, NI Probation Board and Social Services in dealing with sex offenders.

Oonagh Doherty from the local branch of Victim Support updated members on the support services they provide to victims of crime while her colleague Marion Deane provided an overview of what Victim Support can provide in terms of their Criminal Injury Compensation Service.

Colleen Heaney from the Youth Justice Agency provided a summary of the work the YJA carry out in the city and district specifically in terms of youth conferencing.

Speaking about the meeting Alderman Joe Miller, Chairperson of Derry DPP said,

‘Our meeting today with these services was extremely informative for members of the Derry DPP. The presentations given were open and frank and helped to build the capacity of our members. The information received today will be invaluable to members when analysing PSNI reports and understanding how these different justice agencies interface with the local police especially in terms of support for victims and dealing with young people under 18 and sex offenders.’
