Press ReleaseThe “Getting Back to Where We Came From” ExhibitionTuesday, 20 November 2007The Mayor, Alderman Drew Thompson will launch the Getting Back to Where We Came From Exhibition at the Workhouse Museum. “Getting Back to Where We Came From” is a contemporary exhibition produced by a diverse range of young people (13-16years old) from the Greater Belfast exploring their cultural heritage and identity. “Getting Back to Where We Came From” is managed by the Good Relations Office of the Integrating Education Project and is an International Fund for Ireland Programme based in the NI Council for Integrated Education. The exhibition was organised in conjunction with the Ulster Museum and Public Achievement, which is a youth civic engagement initiative focused on concepts of citizenship, democracy and public work and is sponsored by the Young Roots Heritage Lottery Fund. The Mayor welcoming the exhibition to the city said he hoped it would help assist in creating better relations between local schools and communities. “This exhibition is aimed at promoting a better understanding and acceptance of diversity in Northern Ireland in all its forms. I am confident it will appeal to many cross community groups in the city and will prove a useful educational tool.” There will also be an education programme built around the exhibition.
