Press ReleaseThe Carnival of Colours International Children’s FestivalFriday 20th JuneThe Carnival of Colours International Festival is set to engage children and adults alike in a world of wonder when it opens on Monday 23rd June. A packed programme of unique and visually spectacular events, including nightly fire shows, children’s shows and workshops will ensure that this is one of the most unique and exciting events to ever be organised in the city. In Your Space have teamed up with The Serious Road Trip to create this seven-day wonder, which has been funded by Derry City Council. Events will not only be based within two circus tents but also use a variety of areas throughout the park for various events such as the spectacular night-time fire shows with fire jugglers, stilt walkers, dancers and musicians. Speaking ahead of the festival opening, Mayor Councillor Gerard Diver said he was thrilled to see an event of this calibre, taking place in the city and applauded the vision and creativity of the organisers. He continued “This is a wonderful event, providing families and young people with an exciting and engaging festival that is family friendly. St Columb’s Park is the perfect setting for this these performances and I would like to wish everyone involved every success with this festival.” The performers describe the events planned as grass-roots circus at its best and have entertained in a wide variety of European and Middle Eastern countries. In addition to a host of daily workshops for schools and community groups, a range of evening performances with several events catering for grown-ups such as a French Cabaret evening with music from local and French musicians and even a silent French movie night with live musicians. The ‘Party in the Park’ will transform the park into a playground for young and old on Saturday and Sunday with performers, story telling, balloon modelling and music dispersed throughout to create the biggest ever picnic party - teddy bears are welcome.
