Local Teenage bands to spook up Hallowe’en Night

19th October 2005

After a weekend of gruelling auditions 6 teenage bands from the city were finally chosen to perform live to an audience of thousands in Victoria Market Car Park on Hallowe’en night.

The joint winners chosen to perform in this unique opportunity are Tainted Perfection, Civilian, The Q, Orcus, Tourettes and Organised Confusion all of whom will be well up to the challenge of rocking their adoring fans. All of the bands will perform in costume (of course!) and will be followed by sounds of the Stereotonics who are sure to round the night off with a bang.

Congratulating the bands who made it through to perform, Mayor Councillor Lynn Fleming said that the judges obviously had some very tough decisions to make.

“Organisers have advised me that they had anticipated a high quality turnout for the auditions but that the standard of the entries ended up being unbelievably high. I would like to congratulate those who were eventually chosen and wish them every luck with their performance on Hallowe’en night"

Festivals organiser Nuala McGee said that they were now looking forward to a fantastic evening of entertainment.

“A Big Thank You goes out to all the bands who entered, the standard was excellent and if Saturday's auditions are anything to go by then the Teenage Spooks stage will be the place to be on Hallowe'en night for a superb showcase of local teenage talent. I would also take this opportunity to thank the staff at Waterside Theatre and the Nerve Centre, our judges - Teresa Craig from C9TV, Steve Kirk from Q102.9FM, Martin Mullan from the Roundtable and observer Thomas Carroll from the Shadow Youth Council.”

The Teenage Spooks event has been programmed as part of this year’s Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival celebrations. The event will take place in alcohol free Victoria Market Car park on Hallowe’en night as part of the annual outdoor celebrations.

This years Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival will run from the 24th - 31st October. To request a programme visit www.derrycity.gov.uk/halloween, email: halloween@derrycity.gov.uk or telephone (028) 7137 6545.

The Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival is organised by Derry City Council and is funded by the Northern Ireland Events Company, Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Destination North West, the Department for Social Development, Lucozade Energy, The Star Newspaper together with event partner support from BBC Radio Foyle.
