Family friendly - non alcohol zone extension for Hallowe’en Carnival

19th October 2005

Changes to the Hallowe’en Carnival programme announced today extend the family friendly - non alcohol zone in the city centre and will enhance the family experience at the event. The Look-a-Likes Stage, which was to be located at Sainsbury’s Car Park, has been cancelled with the top class entertainment booked for that area being moved to the stages at Guildhall Square and Victoria Market Car Park.

A spokesperson for the Hallowe’en Carnival festival said,

“Original plans to host a student event at Sainsbury’s Car Park have been changed with music in the city centre family friendly non-alcohol zone being extended by one hour to 10:30pm. This will provide an extended city centre programme in a controlled non-alcohol area. The teenage spooks stage will continue as planned with additional music included as part of their on-stage programme”.

Hallowe’en Carnival 2005 sees an extended family friendly non-alcohol zone in the city centre to accommodate locals and visitors. Organisers believe this managed area will create a safe experience for everyone at the event. The spokesperson concluded:

“The family friendly non-alcohol zone is about bringing a managed area for families to the city centre. The event each year attracts thousands of locals and visitors and we aim to ensure that the city centre has the capacity to entertain everyone in a safe environment.

“In addition to the family friendly non-alcohol zone we will be announcing an extensive Carnival Care campaign to support the enjoy Hallowe’en safely ~enjoy Hallowe’en sensibly message”.

The proposed event at Sainsbury's Car Park was always conditional on an occasional license for the event, comments from the local community and Sainsbury's support.
