‘Crafts In The Walled City’

17th November 2005

The Mayor of Derry, Councillor Lynn Fleming will today (Friday) be joined by Ms. Patsey Murphy, editor of the Irish Times Saturday Magazine in launching the 10th annual Crafts in the Walled City event, one of the most exciting fixtures in the local retail calendar. This year, it makes a return to the Guildhall with the largest number of exhibitors ever.

The Mayor, commenting in advance of the launch, said “the Launch of this showcase event in the Guildhall profiles our City and maximizes its attractiveness for local people using the City Centre, as well as tourists and businesses operating there”.

Council’s Economic Development Programme and DETI’s EU Building Sustainable Prosperity Programme support Crafts in the Walled City and the forthcoming Christmas food market. Events such as these profile Guildhall Square and Waterloo Place as part of a premier retail destination and will provide an opportunity for shoppers to explore other parts of the Walled City that are home to specialty retailers.

‘Crafts in the Walled City 2005” will open on Friday 18th November 2005 from 4pm – 8pm. Opening hours for Saturday 19th are 10am – 6pm and Sunday 20th are 11am – 5pm. Further details of the event can be obtained by contacting the Economic Development Section of Derry City Council – tel: 7137 6506 or by logging onto www.derrycity.gov.uk/crafts.
