Press ReleaseTemplemore to take part in World Record attemptWednesday, 17 November 2004Participants at Templemore Sports Complex will be among thousands of keep-fit instructors and enthusiasts taking part in a nationwide workout on Friday 19th November 2004. The Myasthenia Gravis Association (MGA) is organizing the event with all the proceeds being split equally between themselves and the BBC Children in Need Appeal. The Myasthenia Gravis Association is a Derby based national charity dedicated to supporting victims of an autoimmune disease that is also know as the “Rag Doll Illness” and is characterized by fluctuating, sometimes fatal, muscle weakness. The BBC Children in Need Appeal helps disadvantaged children and young people in the UK including those who experience homelessness, neglect, abuse and poverty as well as those with disabilities, terminal illness and addiction. Since 1980 the BBC Children in Need Appeal has raised over £350 million all of which has been spent supporting children and young people in the UK. Administration and promotional costs are not funded out of the money raised from donations to the Appeal. It is hoped that children and adults of all levels of fitness will gather in schools, church or village halls, social clubs, fitness centres, recreation grounds, car parks, shopping precincts and other venues for just ten minutes of a choreographed simultaneous low impact workout. (This low impact workout is suitable for most ages and abilities. Please check with your GP if you are unsure of your suitability to participate.) Apart from participants getting as much sponsorship as they can, the only major requirements for the event is that a qualified fitness instructor must lead each group. All proceeds from this event will be evenly split between the two charities and the event as a whole considered for qualification as a Guinness World Record. The session at Templemore Sports Complex is to be led by the resident aerobics instructor Therese Lynch and will commence at 8:40 pm on Friday, the same time as the other classes throughout the UK. Members of the public are encouraged to come along and participate in this unique event and to support a worthwhile cause.
