Christmas and New Year arrangements for Derry City Council

Thursday, 16 December 2004

Derry City Council’s Civic Offices will be closed on Friday 24th, Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th December 2004. The following week, the Council Offices will be closed on Monday, 03 January 2005.

The District Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages Office at the Guildhall will be closed on Thursday, 23 December from 12.30 pm until Wednesday, 29 December 2004 at 9.30 am. The office will also be closed on Monday, 03 January 2005.

Christmas and New Year holiday arrangements for the Council’s Museum Services are as follows:

Workhouse Museum will be closed from Thursday, December 23rd to Tuesday 04 January and on Monday, 10th Janyuary 2005. The Harbour Museum will be closed from Thursday, December 23rd to Wednesday 29th December. The facility will also be closed on Monday 03 January 2005. The Tower Museum remains closed for renovations.

The Council’s Refuse collection service will operate as normal during the week of December 20th.

Refuse collection will also operate as normal during the week of December 27th, with additional services in operation until December 31st, as follows:

· Cityside Grey Bin Collection - Additional household waste will be collected during this week provided it is placed in plastic sacks and is placed beside the Household Grey Bin. ]

· Waterside Blue Bin Collection – Additional recycling materials will be collected provided it is stores in cardboard boxes and placed beside the Blue Recycling Bin.

During the week of Monday 03 January 2005 the following arrangements have been put in place.

· Waterside Grey Bin Collection – Additional household waste will be collected provided it is placed in plastic sacks and is placed beside the Household Grey Bin.

· Cityside Blue Bin Collection – Additional recycling materials will be collected provided it is stored in cardboard boxes and placed beside the Blue Recycling Bin.

Members of the public are asked to note that the Bulky Refuse Service will be suspended from 27 December 2004 until 10 January 2005. It is hoped members of the public will co-operate with Derry City Council by not leaving refuse/rubbish at the gates of the Civic Amenity Sites during the days that they are closed.

The Council’s Civic Amenity Sites and Recycling Centres will only be closed on the following days during the festive period – Christmas Day, Saturday 25th December; Boxing Day, Sunday 26th December; New Year’s Day, Saturday 01 January and Sunday 02 January 2005.

Members of the public are asked to recycle as much material as possible and to only deposit suitable materials in recycling bins. Newspapers, magazines, tin and steel food and drinks cans, cardboard and light card including cereal boxes, pizza boxes and plastic bottles are acceptable. Do not place bin liners, plastic bags/film, food stuff, nappies, ashes etc into the recycling bin. Your bin will not be emptied if any of the above items are present.
