The Big Christmas Lights Switch On this week

There is an air of excitement in the city as preparations get underway for the beginning of the festive season and the Big Christmas Lights Switch-On which will take place on Wednesday night at Guildhall Square.

The festivities will begin at 6:30pm and the VIP guest on the night will be Santa Claus who will be visiting from Lapland to switch on the city lights at 7:30pm with the help of the Mayor and special guests from the Peter Pan pantomime at the Millennium Forum and members of the local fire brigade. Entertainment will continue throughout the evening with music and fun for all the family until 9:00pm.

Musical entertainment this year will be live band ‘The James Peake Xperience’, a Belfast based five-piece band is well known in the North West area, renowned for their unique selection of 60s, 70s and 80s hits and entertaining costume changes.

The Mayor, Councillor Gearoid O’hEara, is looking forward to the event and encouraged as many people as possible to come along on Wednesday night for what promises to be a great family event for everyone.

This free family event is brought to you with Seasons Greetings from Derry City Council in association with the Department for Social Development.
