PRESS RELEASETop class line up for Hallowe’en Student Stage15th October 2003Expect an evening of top class music on Hallowe’en night as Victoria Market car park plays host to some of the best bands on the Irish music scene today. Together with event partners Q102.9FM the First Trust Student Stage at Victoria car park will rock to the sounds of a superb line up featuring Relish, The Revs, Paul Casey and The Plea as part of this year’s Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival. Voted ‘Event of the Year for 2002’ by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board earlier this year the Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival is organised by Derry City Council in partnership with First Trust Bank Plc and supported by the Northern Ireland Events Company and the Department for Social Development. The full Hallowe’en Carnival programme is now available through the Derry City Council offices, the Tourist Information Centre or via the website www.derrycity.gov.uk/halloween. Lauded by the music media, Relish are an exhilarating 3-piece band from Downpatrick whose music style features an eclectic mix of rock, soul, gospel, blues and even the odd jazz inflection!! The band has achieved huge success outside Ireland in countries such as Spain, Belgium, Indonesia, Thailand and Hong Kong, with a No.1 chart position in Japan for 'You I'm Thinking Of'. Having supported Ocean Colour Scene in Belfast and Dublin in September their Hallowe’en Carnival appearance is the bands last live appearance before their gig in Dublin’s Olympia theatre in November. With propulsive percussion, bouncing bass, big squally guitars and sweet soul vocals Relish will entertain the First Trust Bank Student Stage revelers with tracks from their new album ‘Karma Calling’ and hits ‘Rainbow Zephyr’ and ‘Let it Fly’ from their ‘Wildlflowers’ album. The Revs bring their energetic show to the Victoria Market venue on Hallowe’en night with a set list of hits that is sure to include ‘Wired to the Moon’, ‘Death of a DJ’ and their cover of ‘Turnin’ Japanese’. With six top 20 and four top 10 hit records, a gold album and single plus three Irish music industry awards – Hot Press, Meteor and Big Buzz award winners, The Revs are well on their way to establishing themselves as one of the best rock groups to come out of Ireland. The First Trust Student Stage will also feature Derry’s own Paul Casey who has toured with Chris Rea, Brian Kennedy and Cara Dillon, with his recent solo performance recently packing the Millennium Forum. The Plea, who are Denis and Dermot Doherty from Ballyliffin, will open the nights proceedings, with their debut single ‘Coronary Hills’ is currently received fantastic airplay around the country. The Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en carnival features a bumper programme from the 29th October – 2nd November and features a variety of activities and events for everyone to enjoy.
