Press ReleaseMayor Encourages Citizens To Reflect At ChristmasThursday, 14th December 2006Christmas is traditionally a time of reflection and reconciliation when we think about the year gone by, our family, friends and neighbours. To help mark this important occasion, a Time of Reflection has been organised on Sunday, 17th December at 3.00pm. The initiative is aimed at bringing together our diverse and multi cultural community to remember the past while we prepare to move forward together. Welcoming all communities to the event, the Mayor, Councillor Helen Quigley said: “ It’s important that we observe the tradition of reflection and reconciliation as a community. “ This event will create a neutral environment where people are united through a common feeling of peace and goodwill but it’s also a very personal experience which allows everyone to reflect on their own personal experiences, challenges and achievements.” The Time of Reflection is part of the Christmas Festival, an event for everyone in the city at this time of year. There will be performances from the International School of Peace Studies, Messines Youth Fellowship and the Colmcille Lady’s Choir. Information on the wide range of events which have been organised for the Christmas Festival can be found on the council website: www.derrycitycouncil.gov.uk/christmas Ends For additional information contact:Press OfficeTel: 028 71 376504Fax: 028 71 264858 Adele McCourt Email: Adele.McCourt@derrycity.gov.uk Claire Lundy Email: Claire.Lundy@derrycity.gov.uk |
