Press ReleaseCorries’ Ashley to light up Derry’s StreetsWednesday 14th November 2007Wednesday 21st November will bring festive time to the city as Coronation Street’s Steven Arnold, better known as Ashley Peacock, officially switches on the Christmas Lights alongside the Mayor, Alderman Drew Thompson. Entertainment runs in Guildhall Square from 6.30pm- 8.15pm with music by city favourites The Chevy’s together with host BBC’s Mark Patterson. Special guests on stage also include Everest conqueror, Hannah Shields and the cast of the Millennium Forum’s Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime. Santa Claus will also be making his annual appearance ahead of the official switch on at 7.30pm. Speaking ahead of the event the Mayor Alderman Drew Thompson said, “The annual Christmas lights switch on is a magical event for families and brings thousands of people to the city’s civic square to welcome the official start of the festive preparations. It's a great opportunity to spend some special time in the city and one which we all look forward to". The Christmas Switch on is one of a range of special events organised for families during the festive season and is the first event in the city's Festive Time campaign.
