Press Release10,001 Santas get Mayoral approvalWednesday 14th November 2007The bid to break the world record and have 10,001 Santas on the historic City Walls has achieved the highest endorsement by the Mayor, Alderman Drew Thompson by being named his official Christmas Charity.
Speaking at the official launch of the Christmas Charity event at the City Hotel today, the Mayor said he was delighted to be associated with this fun and challenging charity event. “This promises to be a tremendous event for every member of the community. Not only will it help raise much needed cash for local charities but it will certainly put the city and its historic walls on the map.” Urging as many people as possible to register to take part in the event, the Mayor said it was important that people put their pen to paper and commit to coming along on the day and donning a Santa costume. “The people of this city are renowned for the way in which they embrace the whole concept of dressing up at Halloween so we are confident that they will out in their thousands on 09 December and wear their Santa costume so we can break the Guinness Book of Records. Early registration is important to assist the organsiers so log on now and ensure you and your family are part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Among the charities set to benefit from the event are Children in Crossfire, Macmillan Cancer Care, ICARE and the Foyle Hospice. “Remember your involvement in this will make a difference and assist these charities and the people they care for. To register simply pick up a form from the Information Desk at Foyleside or one of the many local shops and retailers who have them on display throughout the city. Entertainment will be provided and it’s guaranteed to be a great family day out, just come along and join the fun. The 10,001 Santa’s event on is one of a range of special events organised for families during the festive season and is the first event in the city's Festive Time campaign.
