“Why not join the Carnival?”

Ever wondered what it would be like to have a constant festival atmosphere? Why join the Gym when you can join the ‘party’?

Well the North West Carnival Initiative are offering you the opportunity to be a part of the City’s celebrations by inviting new membership from any Community Group/Organisation or Individual who is interested in participating in the development of Carnival skills activity and events within the North West Area.

Supported by The Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the consortium was formed to produce creative, carnival-based programmes through artistic excellence, community training, cultural collaboration and civic celebration. It aims to promote the use of carnival as a means of publicly expressing the creative talent and energy of all people within the city and throughout the North West.

Community and cultural organisations such as An Gaelaras, Waterside Theatre, Gasyard Wall Feile, Greater Shantallow Community Arts, In Your Space, Verbal Arts Centre, Bluebell Arts Project, The Playhouse and Derry City Council, all contribute to the project.

So why not take this opportunity to either learn a new skill, develop an existing one or share what you already have? You don’t have to be a Brazilian beauty or a world-class juggler, just have a love of artistic, cultural and creative expression. Maybe you have enjoyed watching events such as St Patrick’s Day Parade or the Halloween festivities but felt you were on the wrong side of the action, now is your chance to get involved.
